Walt Rush
Walt Rush was born in San Francisco to an architect father and artist mother who painted, so you might say, creativity runs in his family. A self-taught gold/silversmith, Walt has over 50 years’ experience creating jewelry. He had a 4,700 sq. ft store in Ohio for 30 years that looked like, in his words, an old gold mine.
Walt often starts out a piece with a general design and creation in mind, but as he creates he finds his surroundings, and the metals and stones with which he works influence the end result. While working with wax, he delights in visualizing the piece and cutting everything else away. Walt works with a variety of stones, whether they are natural, faceted or cabochons.
Ask him and he will tell you what he really enjoys are his water cast and straw designs. Formed by pouring or dripping molten metal into water or straw and sea grass, Walt creates from the design that takes shape when the metal hardens.
Walt believes jewelry should be as much of an attribute to the human body as a painting is to a room or a sculpture is to that special place in a home, building, or yard. According to Walt, his works-of-art in jewelry or precious metal sculptures are for the discerning in taste.
Walt's works have appeared in the artist’s spotlight feature of Mendocino Arts Magazine. He has also won many awards for his jewelry over the years.
